Forest school at Foster’s School.

Back in 2012 we created our own outdoor classroom at one end of the school field to enable us to deliver Forest school sessions on site.

Each week the children from Nursery and Reception dress up in their waterproofs and wellingtons and learn outdoors, come rain or shine.

The session starts with the children recapping the rules that keep us all safe

There is then a brief teaching time to learn a new skill, such as bird or plant identification, den building, mud painting.

The rest of the session is child led with adults being on hand to oversee the children in their independent learning as they risk assess their chosen activities, negotiate and collaborate.

This is an ideal opportunity for EY’s practitioners to observe the children at play. We then see the children take these independence skills back into the classroom with an enhanced and positive attitude to leaning.

We now have two fully trained Forest school leaders; Miss McCallum and Mrs Phillips.

As well as having the Forest school outdoor classroom within the school grounds, all our children also make use of the gardens, pond area, vegetable patch, field and orchard for outdoor learning across all curricular areas.
