Information

Promoting equality and diversity is essential for both teachers and students. The aim is to create an environment where all students can thrive together and understand that individual characteristics make people unique and not ‘different’ in a negative way.

By raising awareness of all strands of diversity, how to eliminate discrimination and promote equality of opportunity, we are preparing our young people to become good global citizens, and to appreciate the diverse society in which they live. We do this in accordance with the Equality Act (2010).

We build regular opportunities to celebrate diversity and equality within our curriculum. These include coverage of different cultural celebrations, including: Easter, Christmas, Diwali, Eid, Chinese New Year and the Patron Saints’ days, to name a few. These reflect the British Values of Tolerance and Mutual Respect.

We also hold a fully inclusive Sports Day, which involves Paralympic events outlined by The Youth Sport Trust. See examples of the games below and at https://www.youthsporttrust.org/sainsburys-active-kids-paralympic-challenge-resources

In Autumn, it was Equality WeekEach year group learned about one of the strands of Equality through a carefully selected text. After spending time enjoying our book and discussing the key themes, we then completed a piece of work related to the subject. Finally, we brought all of our ideas together and shared them in an assembly. This really helped us to challenge stereotypes and generate our own thinking. Most of all, we realised that…..

“WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT BUT WE ARE ALL EQUAL!”
